Camping at Cagle
Just got back from a 24 hour camping trip and now I have to go directly to work. Hard times…
Well, we arrived Saturday morning at the campground to a parking lot full of boat trailers. You would know, they were having a bass fishing tournament. The place was packed but we did manage to spot a bald eagle high up in the sky, too far away to get a good picture. There was also a burn ban in effect so no campfire. We still had fun with the dogs though.

I went with my best friend, Gwen, who is actually more like a sister now than a BFF. We’ve always had a difficult time explaining our relationship. She’s technically my half-aunt, which sounds weird because she’s only a year and a half older than me. It’s a confusing dynamic, so, growing up together we usually just called each other cousins. Either way, she’s family. We’ve been roommates for over twenty years now, neither of us ever married or had kids, and so it’s just been a convenient living situation for both of us.
Our relationship has changed over the past ten or so years though. I’m not gonna lie, it’s been rough. We used to be so incredibly close, and while she‘s the same person she’s always been, I’ve changed so much in the past decade I might as well be a different person. We really don’t have much in common anymore. I got saved, became a born-again Christian, and then went through some crazy, life-altering, um, stuff, that she could never begin to understand. No offense intended. Few people would understand. I might as well have been abducted by aliens. Anyway, as it stands now, she’s liberal, I’m conservative. She hates Trump, I voted for him three times. So, you can imagine the conflict. We stay away from, well, most topics.
Our little outdoor excursions are good for our friendship. It’s amazing how two people can be so incredibly different and still make it work somehow. Without maintaining love and respect for one another, I suppose it wouldn’t, thus, the state of our country.
The below pictures display our little campsite, our old, mildewed tent, and the sun setting over Lake Conroe.
