Waterworks

Tropical storm Bertha has brought with it a sunny day and a much-needed breeze to Southeast Texas. The storm without an eye, torn apart by wind shear in the Gulf, has at least given us relief from another summer heat dome over Texas.

It actually hasn’t been a bad summer so far. We’ve had some flooding in the Hill Country, but the heavy rains have reduced our ongoing drought to just 25% of the state now. Our rivers and lakes are full again!

Gwen and I went camping in Garner State Park (located in the heart of the Hill Country) about two years ago and were shocked to see the Frio River completely bone dry. I mean, we saw an elderly couple scanning the riverbed with a metal detector. It’s flowing like crazy now. I can’t wait to get out there again.

I’m in the market for a new tent. Camping season is right around the corner and our 20 year old Magellan is on its last leg. Broken poles and mildew have rendered it a health risk at this point.

Just steps away from the Viper Room, an unexpected breach in the dead of night, a river flowed through West Hollywood and flooded the Sunset Strip leaving a massive sink hole in its wake.
